Basketball: EuroLeague: Bamberg defeats Piraeus
German basketball champion Brose Bamberg celebrated his sixth victory of the season in the EuroLeague. After a chase to catch up, the Franconians won 67:65 (32:40) against the Greek top club Olympiakos Piraeus and have a balanced result after twelve matchdays.
“We’ve never lost our confidence. In the end, when it came to doing the right thing, we did the right thing,”said Bamberg coach Andrea Trinchieri.
When they met the former Bamberg champions Brian Roberts and Janis Strelnieks again, the hosts lost some of their place in the second quarter (17:26) after a good start. The Bundesliga side without Luka Mitrovic and Bryce Taylor, who had been injured in the match, did not score well, especially on the three-line.
Despite the problems Bamberg fought his way back to the final quarter, defended strongly and took the lead (65:62/38). minute). Piraeus had the last attack, but never finished. The best thrower in the Bundesliga team was Dorell Wright with 20 points in front of 6150 spectators.
Bamberg, with six victories and six defeats, is currently the eighth in the standings. In the evening, however, Real Madrid has the chance to pass by again. Eight teams reach the play-offs after 30 matchdays.
