DEL: Munich displaces Berlin from the top of the table
Defending champion Red Bull Munich has replaced the polar bears Berlin from the top of the standings in the DEL. The Munich team won on 32. At the end of the second matchday against Straubing Tigers 4-2 (2-1,1-1,1-0). At the same time, coach Don Jackson’s team benefited from the record-breaking defeat of the record holder Eisbären Berlin at Grizzlys Wolfsburg.
In a fast-paced match, Berlin lost 4:7 (2:3,0:3,2:1) and are now in second place behind Munich (67 in each case).
The Iserlohn Roosters turned the game at the Schwenninger Wild Wings in the final period and won 4-3 (1-2,1-1,2-0). Thanks to their success, the Roosters were seventh after points, catching up with fifth-placed Schwenningen (each 48).
In Munich, international Dominik Kahun (2nd/15th), Jason Jaffray (22nd) and Jonathan Matsumoto (41th) shot the favourites to victory. Michael Zalewski (6th) and Michael Connolly (31st) were successful for Straubing.
In the top match Kristopher Foucault (5th/22nd/32nd), international Gerrit Fauser (11th), Björn Krupp (14th) and Mark Voakes (25th/60th) met for Wolfsburg. The goals of Andre Rankel (14/16) and Mark Olver (44/47) from Berlin were too few due to the weak second period of the Polar Bears.
