Ice hockey: DEL: Wolfsburg loses connection, Tigers win basement duel
The main round championship in the German Ice Hockey League is becoming more and more a triathlon. The fourth-placed Grizzly’s Wolfsburg was defeated on 38th position. At the end of the first matchday at the ERC Ingolstadt 1:2 (0:1,1:0,0:0,0:1) after extra time and is already 18 meters behind the leader Nuremberg Ice Tigers (81).
Franken, master Red Bull Munich (79) and Eisbären Berlin (79) had each won their matches on Tuesday.
In the basement duel, Straubing Tigers beat the Krefeld penguins 4-3 (0-1,2-0,2-2,2-2) in the final round of the match and thus equalled the penultimate from Krefeld (43), but played one game less. The Augsburg Panthers have three points more than the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven (49) and won 3:1 (2:0,1:0,0:0) against the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven (49).
In Ingolstadt, David Elsner (5th) had put the hosts ahead early on and Marcel Ohmann equalized at the beginning of the second period (23rd). US striker Brett Olson scored a victory after 39 seconds in extra time.
