EuroLeague: Bamberg hands out victory in Tel Aviv
The German champion Brose Bamberg has suffered a last-minute defeat and thus the next bitter setback in the EuroLeague. The Franks lost 88:90 (41:39) on Thursday evening at Maccabi Tel Aviv, and it was the fifth bankruptcy in a row. The playoffs are already moving into the distance.
After 17 games, the Bundesliga team is now in 13th place with a record of 6:11 victories. Only the first eight players qualify for the quarter-finals after 30 matchdays. Maccabi (9:8) still has the last place in the final round.
The Israelis also had problems after five defeats in the last six EuroLeague matches, and Bamberg had a stronger start.
Even after Tel Aviv’s 6-0 run at the start of the third quarter, the guests kept control in a difficult phase and led six points ahead of them around three minutes to the end.
But then nothing worked out and the hosts took the lead. Ricky Hickman was Bamberg’s top scorer with 23 points, and Michael Roll was the best throwing man in Tel Aviv.
