The two-time World Champion Spain has entered the European Handball Championship early in the main round. Jordi Ribera’s side also won their second game against Hungary in Varazdin, Croatia with a tight 27:25 (13:12).
With the win Spain secured one of the first three Group D qualifying places in Group D before their last group match against Olympic champions Denmark on Thursday with four points.
In an open exchange of blows, Spain struggled to win against the team of former Flensburg coach Ljubomir Vranjes. The best thrower of the match was Bence Banhidi from Hungary with six goals. The winners were Barcelona’s Aitor Arino, club-mate Valero Rivera, Alex Dujshebaev and Adrian Figueras.
Hungary, on the other hand, had already lost its second bankruptcy after 25:32 at the start against Denmark. The Danes will also be able to qualify for the main round at an early stage in their late match against the Czech Republic.
