Handball: Reinforcement for the DHB: Prokop nominates Lemke after
Reinforcement for the German handball team: National coach Christian Prokop has nominated Finn Lemke for the further matches at the European Handball Championship in Croatia.
The defending chief of MT Melsungen replaces Bastian Roscheck (SC DHfK Leipzig) and will be playing in the last preliminary round match against Macedonia on Wednesday (from 18.15 in the LIVETICKER). Lemke, with whom the DHB selection two years ago had sensationally won the European Championship title for Poland, was initially not considered by Prokop. This had caused criticism.
“I want to give the defence more physicality and more security and block arms,”Prokop said at a press conference in the German team hotel in Zagreb. Lemke and his club were last in the training camp on Fuerteventura and received the call from the national coach on Tuesday night. He is expected to join the team on Tuesday evening.
In the draw against Slovenia (25:25) the German defence did not seem to be saddled, especially in the first half. Roscheck will stay with the team in Zagreb for the time being.
