Ice hockey: DEB coach storm to the contract:”Anything can still happen”
DEB coach Marco Sturm doesn’t see his future as automatism, but he doesn’t recognize any insurmountable obstacles.
“There’s always something that can make it fail. I witnessed it myself. As long as nothing is signed, anything can still happen,”said Sturm in a conversation with SID. The former NHL pro added:”It doesn’t matter whether before or after the Olympics, we’re just trying to find the same denominator.”
DEB President Franz Reindl had previously extended the contract beyond 2018 even before the Winter Games in Pyeongchang/South Korea (9th place in the DEB’s history). till 25. February) as probable. The details have been clarified, he said,”It is not as close as Franz describes it,”said Sturm, but he still maintains his basic willingness:”Actually, we both want to continue, but that everything has been clarified, he knows perhaps more than I do”.
The DEB coach said there will be another meeting before the Olympics. Sturm (39) emphasized that he was also quite relaxed due to the good relationship with Reindl.”I hope things will work out sooner or later,”he said,”by and large we’re at an advanced stage.”
Sturm, who has been in charge of the DEB selection since summer 2015, had also connected a further cooperation with the clarification of various topics, which mainly concern the sporting development in German ice hockey. After the World Cup in Denmark in spring, his contract expires.
Under storm, the national team experienced a noticeable upswing, reached the World Cup quarter-finals twice and qualified for the Olympics in Pyeongchang.
