BBL: Ratiopharm Ulm climbs to Playoff Square
Ratiopharm Ulm jumped to a play-off place in the BBL. At the last minute, coach Thorsten Leibenath’s team secured the 81:79 (43:43) at the Rockets Erfurt after a rapid race to catch up. While Ulm edged out Fraport Skyline’s equal points (both 20:14) from eighth place, the Thuringians slipped to a relegation spot.
The polar bears from Bremerhaven also gave important points in the relegation fight. The polar bears were defeated by Science City Jena on Sunday with 72:80 (43:40) and are in third last place with 8:28 points ahead of Erfurt’s peers. With 22 points Jenas Julius Jenkins was the best thrower of the match.
Meanwhile, Telekom Baskets Bonn defeated Walter Tigers Tübingen 89:80 (49:38) and finished sixth. The Tigers are stuck with 17 defeats and only one win in 18th place.
The team of s. Oliver Würzburg will remain close followers of the first eight. With their third victory in a row against the Central German team BC 86:78 (50:46), the Würzburg team (20:16) are in tenth place.
