Ice hockey: grizzlies tear the cops apart
Master Red Bull Munich won a tough defeat against “Vice” Grizzlies Wolfsburg in the DEL on the fourth last day of the preliminary round. On Thursday evening, the citizens of Munich lost 0:4 (0:2,0:1,0:1,0:1) in their home arena.
With 103 points on the scoresheet and a lead of twelve points over Nuremberg Ice Tigers, the leader Red Bull is first place but hardly to be taken. Nuremberg will play on Friday evening at the Krefeld Penguins. Wolfsburg climbed to fourth place with 74 points.
The Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven had to take a 1:5 (1:2,0:1,0:1,0:2) home defeat against Adler Mannheim in the fight for direct playoff participation. With 72 points, the penguins are now in sixth place, which means that they are still eligible for direct entry into the playoffs, and have only two points ahead of the Mannheim team, who are currently ninth in the qualifying round.
In Munich, the German Olympic driver Gerrit Fauser (13th/59th) was doubly successful for the guests from Lower Saxony, and Fabio Pfohl (9th) and Mark Voakes (36th) also met. In Mannheim’s clear victory, the attackers Marcel Goc and David Wolf, who like Fauser belong to the German squad for Pyeongchang, were among the goalscorers.
