Handball: Rhine-Neckar lions roll over Lemgo

The Rhine-Neckar lions have survived the six-week European Championship break without any problems. In their first Bundesliga match after the disappointing European championship in Croatia, which was disappointing from a German point of view, the team from Mannheim won 38:17 (23:4) against TBV Lemgo and stayed at the top of the standings (34:6 points).

The runner-up SG Flensburg-Handewitt (30:10) did not have any problems at 29:20 (11:7) at HC Erlangen and remains on the heels of TSV Hannover-Burgdorf (31:9) in second place in the standings. The HSG Wetzlar defeated Frisch Auf Göppingen 34:27 (16:17) and SC Magdeburg won the match against VfL Gummersbach 30:24 (15:12).

The lions dominated the game against ninth-placed Lemgo, especially in the first half at will. The favourite moved to 14:0 – only after 16:52 minutes Christoph Theuerkauf scored the first goal of the guests.

Coach Nikolaj Jacobsen’s team moved down a few gears, but stayed ahead of the game and managed to win the match. The lion’s best throwers were international player Patrick Groetzki and the Swiss player Andy Schmid with five goals each.
