Basketball: Bavaria in series for third time in basketball cup final

Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich is in the final round of the BBL Cup for the third time in a row. In the first preliminary round match of the Top Four against hosts ratiopharm Ulm, Bavaria won 84:73 (41:42).

In the final on Sunday (15.00 hrs) Munich will face the winner of the second semi-final on Saturday evening between former series champion Alba Berlin and medi Bayreuth in the fight for the successor of Brose Bamberg, who is not qualified for Ulm.

For a long time, the hosts provided an impressive battle for Bavaria, which has been unbeaten in the Bundesliga for 17 matches. It was only with increasing length of play that the Munich-based players were able to gain increasing control of the game.

Outstanding players from Bavaria, who 50 years after their only cup victory so far, were the US pros Jared Cunningham with 22 points and Reggie Redding with 13 points. Ulm’s most successful thrower was the New Zealander Isaac Fotu with 21 points.
