All about the 2019 World Cup – Participants, Teams and Stars: Handball
The 26. Men’s World Handball Championships will be held in Germany and Denmark in 2019. It is also the first World Cup to be organised in cooperation with two handball associations. Here you can find all information about the 2019 World Cup – including the participants, the DHB team, the dates and the mode.
The Handball World Championship is held every two years, alternating with the European Championship. The tournament took place in France in 2017, and in 2019 the DHB team will have a home tournament again for the first time since the 2007 World Championship.
The World Handball Championship 2019 will take place from 9. January to 27. January 2019 in Germany and Denmark. The opening match will take place in the Mecedes-Benz Arena Berlin. The final will again take place in the Royal Arena in Copenhagen.
A total of 24 nations will participate in the 2019 World Cup. These will initially be divided into four groups of six teams each. After everyone has played each other, places one to three go into the main round. The twelve main round participants will again be divided into two groups of six, the first two will each advance to the semi-finals. This will ultimately result in 96 World Cup matches.
Germany will all play the preliminary round matches in Berlin. In case of sporting success, the national team would move to Cologne. Hamburg would then be the venue for the semi-finals before the medal matches in Copenhagen.
The official sale of the tickets took place on 1. March 2018. Tickets can be purchased on the official website of the event. Day tickets for the preliminaries and main rounds are available for as little as 15 euros. After the draw in summer, more tickets will be on sale.
In the first sales phase, 27,000 venue packages have already been sold, guaranteeing entry to all matches at the selected location.
The fourth to sixth-place finishers in the preliminary round groups will be announced at the President’s Cup in Cologne and Copenhagen on 19-22 March. and 20. January the places play off.
In the European qualifiers, the play-off pairings for the last nine World Cup places for the European teams have already been determined. The pairings are as follows:
Norway’s opponent has not yet been determined, as the Swiss are still protesting at the EHF
The winner after the first and second leg qualifies for the World Cup. The first legs will be played between 8. and 10. June 2018. The second legs will take place from 12. till 14. June 2018.
In addition, the three starters from America will take part in the Continental Championship, which will take place from 16. till 24. June 2018 on Greenland.
