DEL: Champion Munich with first victory – Mannheim wins after thriller

Red Bull Munich is slowly getting into shape in the play-offs. The defending champion won the second game of the quarter-finals at Fischtown Penguins Bremerhaven 6:3 (3:0, 1:2, 2:1) and equalled the underdog in the series. In the first duel there had been a 3:4 home defeat, the next game of the “best-of-seven” series will take place on Sunday (2 p.m.).

DEL record champion Eisbären Berlin missed another victory in the series against runner-up Grizzlys Wolfsburg. The capital club lost 2:5 (1:3, 1:0, 0:2) in the runners-up Grizzly Wolfsburg, in the series it is 1:1.

Former champions Adler Mannheim, on the other hand, have the best chances of reaching the semi-finals after an overtime thriller. Bill Stewart’s team won the second game of the series against the ERC Ingolstadt by scoring in extra time 3:2 (0:0, 2:0, 0:2, 0:0, 1:0). Thus it stands in the series 2:0 for Mannheim.

Already on Thursday the Nuremberg Ice Tigers had balanced the series against the Cologne sharks by a 3:2 away win after extra time.

“It was a similar game as two days ago. We led early again, but then had problems again after the first goal,” said Munich’s Dominik Kahun, silver medal winner at the Olympic Games: “Bremerhaven is almost there. Fortunately, however, we made up our minds at the right times.”

In Bremerhaven, Brooks Macek (1st), Maximilian Kastner (13th) and Keith Aucoin (18th) took a clear lead in the first third. Michael Moore (23rd) scored for the hosts before Patrick Hager (29th) restored the three-goal lead.

However, Wade Bergman (32nd) and Kristopher Newbury (41st) brought Bremerhaven back. Kahun (56th) and Jason Jaffray (59th) made everything clear shortly before the end.
