Ice hockey: Storm invites Merkel to visit the cabins
Ice hockey national coach Marco Sturm has invited Angela Merkel to visit the Olympic heroes in the cabin after an international match.
“A visit to our cabin by the Chancellor would be a great honour for us. She seems to be a sports fan and may be able to catch up in the near future,” Sturm told Sport-Bild.
In the past, Merkel had personally congratulated the national soccer team several times in the cabin, among others after the World Cup victory in Brazil in 2014. Cabin selfies with the silver medal winners from Pyeongchang, however, did not take place.
Unlike Merkel, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the German ice hockey team was a fan of the first hour; he visited the team before the Olympic kick-off and spoke to players and supporters: “One day before the final, he called us again from Germany,” Sturm revealed: “Moritz Müller immediately asked him what the situation was like with the GroKo.
