Handball: Handball World Cup: This is the new mode from tournament 2019

The World Handball Federation IHF is changing the way the World Handball Championships are played from the 2019 tournament. Here you can find all information about the new features.

24 teams will participate in the 2019 World Handball Championships, which will be held in Germany and Denmark.

Also in the new mode the preliminary round consists of four groups of six teams, which play 15 games. However, from now on only the first three teams of the respective groups will advance. The preliminary round is not followed by a knockout phase as before, but a main round in which there are two groups of six.

The results achieved in the preliminary round will be taken into the main round. There are nine games per group. The first two teams of the two main groups reach the semi-finals.

So far, eleven nations have qualified for the 2019 World Cup.
