Ice hockey: Salzburg in CHL quarter finals
In the fifth attempt Red Bull Salzburg finally made it to the quarter finals of the Champions Hockey League (CHL). Austria’s ice hockey champion won the second leg of the round of 16 on Tuesday against French champion Rouen Dragons with 5:1 (2:0,1:1,2:0) and after the 3:3 in the first leg he safely made it to the top.
In the quarter-finals, the cops have to deal with Kärpät Oulu. The Finnish champion defeated the Swiss title holder ZSC Lions Zurich after a 4:4 in the first leg at home with 3:2. The game will be played on 4 / 5 in Finland and 11 December in Salzburg.
Salzburg put a lot of pressure against the undefeated dragon in the domestic league in 17 games from the beginning. Attack after attack rolled onto the French goal, in powerplay the Salzburgers cracked the defensive bar through Ryan Duncan (12th). In the finish of the first third, the French indicated their danger in two counterattacks, before Brant Harris, with a deflected Herburger shot (19.), highly deserved to 2:0.
In the middle third, Joris Bedin managed to equalise, but only 47 seconds later Thomas Raffl fought back and restored the two-goal lead (28th). In the final third, the Salzburgers took no more risks, did not really get into trouble any more and made everything clear in the 57th minute by Bobby Raymond (57th). Duncan fixed the final score in the empty goal (59th).
