Ski jumping: Ex-ÖSV-Coach Pointner: “It’s about time we had a crash.”

The former ski jumping coach of the Austrian ski association Alexander Pointner is now known in the media for his tirades about the current state of the local eagles. Pointner also has a lot to say about the current misery.

In his column in the Tiroler Tageszeitung the success coach, under whom Gregor Schlierenzauer and Thomas Morgenstern shaped the time of the “super eagles” and flew in the greatest triumphs of their career, once again does not leave good hair on the state of the ÖSV: “From my point of view not only the connection to a modern jumping technique was missed, but also the attitude to top-class sport, which was preached within the team, was wrong”.

The main problem: the lack of team spirit. According to Pointner, personalities would be ironed out, the jumpers would have to bend: “Successful athletes are almost always very individual personalities who go their own way and (may) do something wrong. A good coach knows how to steer the forces of his athletes so that success is possible.”

Many are not honest with themselves. Pointner expects a thunderstorm: “It’s about time there was a real crash in the ÖSV team. “With anger in my belly, I’m sure it doesn’t jump any worse.” It couldn’t be worse for Gregor Schlierenzauer. The 28-year-old was meanwhile ordered by the ÖSV to train individually.
