Wagner: Nowitzki was our Jordan

Moritz Wagner of the Washington Wizards describes Dirk Nowitzki’s enormous influence – and compares him to Michael Jordan.

Moritz Wagner of the Washington Wizards is one of six Germans in the NBA.

On Sunday, his birthday, the Big Man took time for a “Q&A” on the official league website and answered fan questions.

Wagner stressed the important role Dirk Nowitzki plays for German basketball players.

“Dirk has had a great influence on my career,” the international said of the legend who ended her career last year.

Nowitzki was an “inspiring role model” for probably every child in Germany who had the dream of becoming a basketball player.

“He’s our MJ,” Wagner said, looking at Michael Jordan, “He’s the GOAT.”

Nowitzki’s 2011 play-off run, which led to the title, made a lasting impression on Wagner: “That was the first time I realized what winning can really mean to someone”.

The NBA will probably allow some teams to resume training on Friday. However, only individual work is allowed, team units are still prohibited
