Spurs coach teases Trump
After the first play-off out of the San Antonio Spurs since 1997, coach Gregg Popovich uses the rhetoric of US President Donald Trump. He is considered a great critic.
Starting coach Gregg Popovich has been making a lot of fun of his intimate enemy Donald Trump after the San Antonio Spurs went out at the NBA final tournament.
“Who said the series is over? This is fake news. Total fake news,” joked the 71-year-old in Orlando, Florida.
Not in the playoffs for the first time since 1997
For the first time since 1997 the Spurs are not in the playoffs, a successful run with five titles (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2014) is over.
But Popovich, also the US national coach, denied the facts in trump style after the 112-118 win over Utah Jazz. “Many people have told me that the series is not over yet. I talk to people all the time, they call me and tell me: ‘Pop, the show is not over'”, said Popovich.
The experienced head coach regularly uses his popularity to criticize Trump’s policies. To him, the president is a “destroyer”, “coward” and “deranged idiot”.
