Sixers fire coach after playoff exit

The Philadelphia 76ers parted ways with head coach Brett Brown after the playoffs. Currently some prominent successors are being traded.

After the playoff against the Boston Celtics around Daniel Theis, the Philadelphia 76ers have relieved coach Brett Brown of his duties. This decision was announced by the NBA team.

The 59-year-old has been responsible for the team since 2013 and has reached the playoffs in each of the last three years. Against the Celtics, the team lost the series 0:4 in the first round.

Sixers General Manager Elton Brand thanked Brown in a press release: “I have enormous respect for Brett on both a personal and professional level. I appreciate what he has done for the 76ers organization and the city of Philadelphia.”

Is successor coming from Los Angeles?

Brand also added: “Unfortunately, we did not achieve our goals for this year. Therefore, I believe the best thing to do is to take a new direction.”

Brown’s successor has not yet been determined. Among the possible candidates for the coach position at the 76ers are supposed to be Jason Kidd, assistant coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, and Tyronn Lue, co-coach of the LA Clippers.
