The Swedish alpine ski team has made the best promotion for the 2019 World Championships and won the team competition at the World Cup final in Aare. Olympic slalom champions Frida Hansdotter and Andre Myhrer and their colleagues beat France 3:1 in the final and Austria lost 2:2 against Germany in the small final according to the time rule.
In 2015 in Meribel they were third on the podium for the last time at the season finale, in 2016 in St. Gallen. Moritz and 2017 in Aspen were both fifth, now followed by fourth place.
Olympic silver medallist Austria with Katharina Gallhuber, Katharina Liensberger, Katharina Truppe, Manuel Feller, Marco Schwarz and Michael Matt (not in action) lost 1:3 in the semi-final against France in Aare on Friday after a 3:1 opening win against Slovenia and only took part in the small final. Olympic champion Switzerland had already failed at the start (quarter finals) due to Sweden.
It’s a shame that they didn’t finish in third place, of course. A team wins together, a team loses together. We’ll come back stronger,” said the Carinthian,”Once so, once so, it’s not every race the same. It was very different from Korea. Anything is possible in this team competition, you can’t underestimate any nation,” said Schwarz (2 wins/1 defeat), who will contest the special slalom on Sunday.
“It went so lala. Of course we would have liked to win against Germany and in general we would have liked to be at the top. We didn’t quite get to the point. It wasn’t that bad, but fourth place is always a disappointment,” said Feller (1 win/2 losses)”Losing to Germany is never really nice, but it’s a bit of a love-hate relationship.
For him, giant slalom on Saturday and slalom on Sunday are still on the agenda:”Quite honestly, I’m glad we’re coming to the end. The carcass is already wearing off, but it’ll last for two races. In the giant slalom he had a great season, he wants to show that again, in slalom he wants to stabilize in the top 15 of the starting list.
