Ski Jumping: Althaus flies past the podium at home game

The ski-jumping Olympic silver medallist Katharina Althaus won her two worst results of the season at the World Cup final in her home town of Oberstdorf.

The 21-year-old from Allgäu was the best German seventh in the last jump on Sunday on the small Schattenbergschanze, the day before it had even only been enough to eighth place. In her first ten races of the season, Althaus was always among the top three.

The winner on both days in Oberstdorf was the Japanese Sara Takanashi, who clinched 55 career victories with her first two wins of the season. Thus the 21-year-old surpassed the Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer (53 victories) and is now the sole World Cup record holder in ski jumping.

After jumps on 99.0 and 102.5 m, Takanashi won with 250.4 points on Sunday as on the previous day ahead of Daniela Iraschko-Stolz (238.8) from Austria and Maren Lundby (231.0) from Norway. With 210.0 points, Althaus was clearly behind again: “I know that I can show better jumps. But I just didn’t bring it over today,” said Althaus.

The two third places were the worst results this season for Lundby, who had already won the overall World Cup ahead of Althaus – before, Lundby had won nine times in 13 shows and finished second four times.

Olympic Champion Carina Vogt (Degenfeld) from Sochi, still the best German on Saturday in fourth place, finished eighth in the second jumping competition on equal terms with Ramona Straub (Langenordnach). Juliane Seyfarth (Ruhla) finished the season in tenth place, Anna Rupprecht (Degenfeld) in 24th place. nor world cup points.
