The women’s 2018/2019 Ski World Cup season is a very special one. Two weeks before the start of the season in Sölden, superstar Lindsey Vonn announced that she would end her career at the end of the season. But the US-American wants to break Ingemar Stenmark’s record of 86 World Cup victories first. But not only Vonn is the focus of the women’s World Cup season 2018/2019, as his compatriot Mikaela Shiffrin could win slalom gold for the fourth time in a row at the World Championships in Aare in mid-February. Of course, the 23-year-old is also aiming for the third overall World Cup in a row.

After a sobering World Cup season, Austria’s women’s ski team has regained its courage. “I’m assuming that we’ll be in the front again this year,” explained women’s racing manager Jürgen Kriechbaum. The aim is to get back into the World Cup disciplines. Potential podium riders are above all Anna Veith, Cornelia Hütter and Bernadette Schild.

The alpine combination will be obsolete after the season in the World Cup, new formats are to be included in the calendar, these will be strengthened parallel races.

The noble product of the parallel competitions are the City Events, where you want to bring skiing to the people in the cities. City races are scheduled for New Year’s Day on the Holmenkollen in Oslo and on 19 February in Stockholm immediately after the World Ski Championships in Aare.

The women’s World Cup final will take place this season from 13 to 17 March 2019 in Soldeu in Andorra. The winter sports resort in the Pyrenees has only been on the World Cup calendar twice so far – in 2012 and 2016.
