Figure Skating: Next World Record by Papadakis/Cizeron

Former ice-cream world champions Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron from France have once again set a world record at the Grenoble Grand Prix.

The couple danced to music from Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata at their home game with breathtaking expression through the four minutes of the freestyle, scored 201.98 points and won superiorly.

Papadakis/Cizeron, world champion of 2015 and 2016 as well as world championship runners-up in 2017, even set two world records at the Beijing Grand Prix earlier this month. With their highest freestyle score of 119.33 points, the European champions surpassed the previously unattained 200 points in the overall score and raised the record to 200.43 points.

In the last two competitions in Grenoble, the favourites prevailed. In pair running, European champions Jewgenia Tarasowa/Wladimir Morozov from Russia won with 218.20 points ahead of the Frenchmen Vanessa James/Morgan Cipras (214.32) and the Italians Nicole della Monica/Matteo Guarise (197.59).

In the error-rich men’s competition, the two-time World Champion Javier Fernandez from Spain had the lead of 283.71 points in the end, despite five failures. Second place went to Shoma Uno (273.32) from Japan, third place to Misha Ge (258.34). Germans were not at the start in both competitions.
