Winter sports: Boardercrosser Berg wins World Cup in Val Thorens

Boardercrosser Paul Berg has won the second World Cup of the season in Val Thorens. Konstantin Schad and Martin Nörl completed the excellent German result with places four and eight. All three Snowboard Germany athletes also broke the national standard for the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang with a place among the top eight.

The 26-year-old Berg also dominated the deciding run and drove home the second World Cup victory of his career. Routine damage, on the other hand, missed the podium due to a driving mistake.

For Nörl, who celebrated his second semi-final entry of his career, it was only enough for the small final. All in all, Nörl had to make do with eighth place after a driving mistake in the last race.

The women’s victory went to five-time world champion Lindsey Jacobelli ahead of French Chloe Trespeuch and Michela Moioli.

The German champion Jana Fischer failed in the quarter-finals, but managed to beat half the Olympic norm with a place in the top 16. Other German participants were not at the start.

At the World Cup season opener at Cerro Catedral in Argentina in September, Nörl had achieved the best result from a German point of view with 21st place. Already on the weekend, another individual race and the first of three team competitions will follow in the Montafon.
