Cycling: Froome: Triple from Giro, Tour and Vuelta “not impossible”.
The British professional cyclist Christopher Froome, the winner of this year’s Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana, believes that the triple of major tours in one calendar year is feasible:”It’s not impossible, but it would certainly be very difficult,” the 32-year-old told the radio station BBC 4 on Monday.
The four-time Tour de France winner has never taken part in more than two of the major national tours in one year.He last competed in 2010 at the third of the “Grands Tours”, the Giro d’ Italia.Since the tour has been his focus, Froome has been using shorter tours in the spring to prepare for the “big loop” in July.
The captain of the Sky team had won the overall Vuelta victory on Sunday, in which he had already finished in second place three times, as the third cyclist to double his strike within a year. The double in France and Spain had previously only been won by the two great Frenchmen Jacques Anquetil (1963) and Bernard Hinault (1978).
