MLB: Orioles-Pitcher dies after car accident

The Baltimore Orioles mourn Miguel Gonzalez.The Minor League pitcher succumbed to injuries he sustained in a serious car accident on Saturday in the Dominican Republic.He was only 21 years old.

“Our organisation is very saddened by the tragic death of Miguel Gonzalez,”said Executive Vice President Dan Duquette in a statement:”Miguel was loved by his team-mates and coaches in the Dominican Republic.Our thoughts are with his family and friends in this very difficult time.”

Felipe Alou Jr., Academy Director of Orioles in the Dominican Republic, told ESPN that Gonzalez was on his girlfriend’s way home and crashed his car against a truck that had lost control.

“The impact was on the driver’s side.Miguel suffered serious injuries, including injuries to the head.He didn’t recover from it and died at noon on Monday.His funeral will take place on Tuesday at his family’s home in Arroyo Hondo,”Alou is further quoted.

Three other people were in the car, all unharmed.Gonzalez has played in the Dominican Summer League for the last three seasons and was active in 38 games (13 starts) and came to a 7.65 ERA.
