Basketball: FIBA criticizes EuroLeague push:”Plump attempt at diversion”.

The FIBA has harshly criticized the EuroLeague’s advance in the dispute over the newly introduced national basketball windows. The counterparty’s suggestion is a “crude attempt to divert attention” was stated in a statement on Friday. The approach is “dubious and unacceptable”.

The EuroLeague, the premier league in European basketball, had published a letter the day before and pointed out its solution idea in the conflict, but had not moved away from its own position. The national teams will continue to play exclusively in the summer.

FIBA introduced windows for 2017 windows three years ago, including qualification matches in autumn and spring. The idea behind this is to give the national teams more attention. But the EuroLeague doesn’t want to pause at this time and ignores the calendar.

According to FIBA, the whole problem would be solved if the EuroLeague were to postpone two matchdays:”The season could start a week earlier. There are other alternatives. But it is a reality that the EuroLeague sees national teams as a useless and annoying part of the basketball family,”the FIBA announced.

According to the new idea of the EuroLeague, 38 weeks a year would belong entirely to the club competitions, and tournaments (EM, World Cup, etc.) or qualification matches are to be held exclusively in July. There would be hardly any difference to the present situation.
