Handball: THW Kiel to Kielce without operated Gislason

The crises-stricken record champion THW Kiel will play away in the Champions League on Sunday at KS Vive Kielce without his coach Alfred Gislason.The 58-year-old Icelander was operated on the intervertebral disc at short notice on Friday.Gislason will be represented by assistant coach Christian Sprenger at the Polish Champion and 2016 Champions League winner.

“I had hoped to postpone the intervention until the European Championship break in January,”said Gislason:”But it just didn’t work any more.According to THW, Gislason will be able to “sit back on the bench again after the routine surgery” at the home game against Aalborg Handbold on Wednesday.

After three defeats in six league matches and the worst start to the season in 15 years, Kiel is currently in crisis.On Thursday the 20-times German champion had lost 22:30 at the HSG Wetzlar.
