Basketball: FIBA makes compromise proposal

The FIBA has proposed a compromise in the controversy over the new country game windows.According to the FIBA press release, the plan for the calendar’s conversion was sent to the EuroLeague and its 16 clubs.

As things stand at the moment, three World Cup qualifying matches will be held in three windows from the end of November. The EuroLeague, the premier class in club basketball, does not want to take this into account and continue to play. The national teams – or the EuroLeague participants – would be lacking in professionals due to the conflict.

Now the FIBA has the following idea: The qualification matches scheduled for Thursday will be postponed to Friday and the EuroLeague matches scheduled for Thursday and Friday will take place on the previous Tuesday. There would no longer be any overlaps.

However, this would mean that EuroLeague clubs’ international players would be in action three times a week. From a German point of view, in the first window on the 21st (EuroLeague), 24.and 27.November (national team). The EuroLeague has so far shown no willingness to compromise.
