“I would simply do away with the draft altogether,”said van Gundy in a conversation with the Detroit Free Press,”We should just take care of the salary cap.All rookies could be free agents and if someone wants to pay 50 million a year, they can do it.It just has to be done according to the rules of the cap.”

The maximum contracts are also a thorn in the side of van Gundy’s side and prevent equal opportunities in the league “The NBA does not want a balanced system.They want super teams, and I understand that.Especially from a business point of view, this has paid off.”
