Basketball: Date dispute with EuroLeague: FIBA postpones international matches

The FIBA basketball world association has presented a solution to the conflict over the new country play windows.As the federation announced on Wednesday, the World Cup qualifiers will be postponed from November to February from Thursday to Friday.Whether the EuroLeague, the premier class in club basketball, will play its matches scheduled for Thursday and Friday on the previous Tuesday is not yet known.

According to the latest EuroLeague figures, the EuroLeague did not want to take into account the clashes of deadlines and continue to play.The national teams – or the EuroLeague participants – would be lacking in professionals due to the conflict.

The German Basketball Association (DBB) and the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) welcomed FIBA’s proposal:”This is an absolutely constructive and healthy compromise that is perfectly acceptable for both sides, the FIBA and the ECA,”said DBB Secretary General Wolfgang Brenscheidt last week.

The proposed solution means that EuroLeague clubs’ international players would be in action three times a week.From a German point of view in the first window on the 21st (EuroLeague), 24.and 27.November (national team).
