Boxing: Schulz deplores declining TV interest in boxing
Former heavyweight boxer Axel Schulz is concerned about the declining interest of German television in his sport.
“We’re in the same situation in boxing as we were in my early years as a professional in 1990, when the TV stations didn’t broadcast as much,”said the 48-year-old, who once attracted up to 18 million viewers to the screens, to the Stuttgarter Zeitung and the Stuttgarter Nachrichten (Saturday edition):
“We’re in a similar situation to tennis, considering how long nothing has come to Boris Becker.”
He misses the national heroes, said Schulz, who sees many young talents with potential.Among them is the Palatinate Leon Bauer.

The Junior World Champion in super middleweight will be taking part in the opening programme of the quarter-finals of the new World Boxing Super Series between Briton Chris Eubank jr.and the Turkish Avni Yildirim in the Stuttgart Schleyerhalle.
“The talents must not exaggerate by wanting to have the big battles, but must be carefully built up,”said Schulz.
