MLB: New York Yankees: Future of manager Girardi uncertain
New York Yankee manager Joe Girardi’s contract expires at the end of the current season. Many people thought that Girardi’s extra time at the record-breaking championship was just a matter of formality, but a fatal mistake, which the Yankees made a 5-run lead against the Indians, changed the starting point.
In game 2 of the ALDS, Girardi had left out a challenge against the Cleveland Indians after the home plate had decided to overtake Umpire on hit-by-pitch for Indians-Right-Fielder Lonnie Chisenhall.TV pictures showed, however, that the ball of Yankees pitcher Chad Green bounced off the knob of Chisenhalls racket.
This decision brought Girardi a lot of criticism, the game was lost 9:8 despite a clear lead in the meantime. Also, that Girardi starter CC took Sabathia off the field after 77 pitches displeased the Yankees’ leaders.
“Whatever her decision will be, I’ll live with it,”Girardi said about a possible exit from the Yankees from ESPN:”Some people are not satisfied with me, but the only thing I can do right now is to look ahead with the team and give the best.”
The fans of the Yankees made no secret of their resentment and made a merciless stand against Girardi at the team presentation before the 1-0 victory in Game 3 in the ALDS.Girardi herself did not decide whether he wanted to remain Yankee manager.Rather, he wanted to discuss his future with his family first.
Girardi’s been Yankee manager for ten years.During his tenure, the team from New York made six playoffs and won the 2009 World Series.
