NHL: First Australian in the NHL: Goal “with the butt”
After its historic premiere, Nathan Walker received a phone call from the top.Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull congratulated Washington Capitals striker Malcolm Turnbull, who was the first NHL player to make history down under.
The 23-year-old confessed during a telephone conversation with the head of government, who twittered his club as a video clip.He scored his first NHL goal in a 6-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens in his debut “with his butt,” he laughed Turnbull.The first Australian in the world’s best ice hockey league had deflected a shot to the 6-1 final score.
Walker was born in Wales and emigrated to Australia with his family at the age of two. He spent several years in the junior division of Czech first division club HC Vitkovice before moving to the US junior league USHL in 2013.
The Capitals drafted him in 2014, and since then he has been on ice in Washington’s farm team Hershey Bears in the AHL.This season he made his first jump into the NHL squad.
