NFL: Titans vs.
Week 6 ends in Nashville: The Indianapolis Colts are guests at the Tennessee Titans – and since the Titans were the favourite for most of the big divisional favourites before the season, the starting point is suddenly not so clear. Can the Colts pass Tennessee in AFC South? In the coin toss, SPOX editor Adrian Franke argues for the Titans, mySPOX user BigLuck argues for his colts. The game will be shown live on DAZN during the night from Monday to Tuesday from 2.30 am!
Tennessee Titans (2-3) – Indianapolis Colts (2-3) (Tue, 2:30 a. m. live on DAZN)
mySPOX-User BigLuck: Being a fan of the Indianapolis Colts requires strong nerves these days.It was clear that it would be a transitional season with a completely re-formed defense and the unknown downtime of Andrew Lucks. After the embarrassing appearance in the opener, however, a trend developed that never allowed a Colts fan to lean back during a game.
In the first half, the team plays good football, or at least good enough to keep the opponent in check and go into the break with a lead.In this one, however, the team regularly forgets everything that has to do with football and collapses.
So what’s the hope that the Colts will win the Monday Night Game against the Titans?First of all, the obligatory hint: Tennessee doesn’t know how to win against the Colts, lost the last eleven (!) and 16 of the last 17 games.Already last season, Titan’s players admitted that they had this in mind.
Let’s look at the Colt staffing situation, there’s good news and bad news.Basically, the hospital is getting lighter, except for Luck and Clayton Gaethers, all starters should be available.
Marcus Mariota is likely to play in the opponent’s game, but his mobility is limited. This plays into the hands of the Colts, as they often had problems keeping Mariota in their pocket. If this succeeds and you can contain or even neutralize the dangerous Run-Game (2nd place after DVOA) then you give the offense the opportunity to win the game.
In the offense Jacoby Brissett (apart from some costly mistakes) plays a great season with a good pass and is also dangerous in her own runs. The colts are already using the read option for him several times, also a touchdown has already resulted. With the return of Doyle and Chester Rodgers, he has access to the entire arsenal of passport recipients, plus Frank Gore and Marlon Mack in the backfield, who showed his potential last week.
The most important factor for a victory will be consistency. The Colts have shown that they can keep games tight or even determine games until the break. Also against the Titans this should be possible, the offense is limited by the injury of Mariota, the defense belongs to the weakest of the league (rank 26 according to DVOA).If you can take such a performance into the second half and the coaching staff doesn’t fall back into ultra-conservative play-calling and pre-event defense, then you can also win against the favourite.
Adrian Franke (SPOX): It’s a game that raises a legitimate question: Who is the favourite? The Titans went into the season at least as an insider’s tip, for many as a serious playoff candidate. After the first five games, one has to say: too much of August optimism has not remained.
Because reality is another.Despite numerous investments over the off-season, Tennessee has not yet been able to repair the glaring weak points in the secondary sector, even in the pre-season.The passport defense remains a constant problem, while Marcus Mariota could not convince Mariota in spite of good passport protection. The fact that the alternative is no better than last week against Miami was impressively obvious.
The good news – and here the argumentation is slowly turning into a pro-titans view – is that Mariota was able to train again during the week due to his thigh problems and will presumably play. The Colts have improved defensively and will continue to do so, but currently they still defensively allow the third most yards per pass and by far the most big pays (34 passing layouts of over 20 yards).
From Titan’s point of view, this has to be a matchup that Mariota takes advantage of, even from the pocket. The hitherto mercilessly inefficient Passing Game could find its way back into the lane on Monday evening. It is also clear that the Run Game has to be the base of the Titan-Offense.The great dominance, which was seen occasionally last year, is still missing. At the same time, however, 4.8 yards per run and seven rushing touchdowns are recorded.Indy’s new front has to show that it can withstand here too.
The argumentation on the other side of the ball is much more difficult.Tennessee urgently needs to increase in the pass defense, the Secondary still reveals far too many holes and the pass rush is much too inconstant.
The good news so far is the Run-Defense, Tennessee has so far been largely stable and is the only team that has not yet approved a big play run (at least 20 yards) over the first five games apart from Detroit.
What does that mean?It should make the Colts-Offense one-dimensional and place the game clearly in Brissett’s hands. At first glance, this may not seem to be the worst scenario for the Colts, given the Titans’ problems in the passport defense, but at the same time Tennessee is perfectly capable of forcing Brissett to make mistakes with lightning packages and combinations.Although the Titans, you can’t blandish it, one way or another, an answer to T. Y.to find Hilton.
