MLB: Joe Maddon about Ejection:”It was a huge play by us”
Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon was expelled from the Los Angeles Dodgers in game 1 of the NLCS after a controversial referee’s decision. Now this person expresses his or her ejection.
Maddon’s resignation came after a scene in which Dodger’s shortstop Charlie Culberson was first made by Willson Contreras at home base out.But after a challenge from the hosts, the refereees called the call again, as Contreras had violated rule 7.13.This means that a Catcher is only allowed to block the way to the base if it has control over the ball.
After the decision Maddon stormed out of his dugout and started to discuss with the referee team.Mike Winters, Head Referee in Game 1, listened briefly to Maddon’s arguments, but a short time later decided to expel the 63-year-old.
At the post-game press conference, Maddon commented on the scene:”I disagree with the interpretation of the rules.I think that anyone who has played major, even minor league baseball will agree with me 100%.”
It was an incredibly strong play from our side, that’s all I can add,”said a visibly annoyed Cubs manager.
