MLB: Searching for managers at the Red Sox takes shape
The Boston Red Sox apparently have another candidate on the list after the dismissal of manager John Farrell: Ron Gardenhire from the Arizona Diamondbacks could possibly take over the team.
In the past season, Gardenhire was the benchmark coach for the Diamondbacks. The 59-year-old, himself a short-stop for the New York Mets from 1981 to 1985, looks back on a wealth of managerial experience: from 2002 to 2014, he led the Minnesota Twins six times in total into the playoffs.
In addition to Gardenhire, interviewed on Wednesday by the Front Office around President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski, there are two other names on the list.In the last few days, talks have been held with former Tigers manager Brad Ausmus and Alex Cora, Houston Astros’ benchmark coach. It is not known whether there will be any further candidates.
The Red Sox had won the AL East this season, but failed in the first play-off round due to the Astros.Farrell had been released. He had been in charge of the team since 2013.
