NFL: Eagles: Season’s Out for Peters and Hicks

The victory over the Washington Redskins was an expensive one for the Philadelphia Eagles: Philly lost two starters for the rest of the season with Jason Peters and Jordan Hicks.

Peters had to be driven off the field after a defender had fallen on his leg in a block. The examination at the beginning of the week confirmed the worst fears: cruciate ligament and internal ligament tears. Head coach Doug Pederson confirmed that the Left Tackle will miss the rest of the season.

Peters continued to play at a very high level, his retirement will further increase the pressure on quarterback Carson Wentz. At present, it is not yet known how the Eagles react to this in terms of personnel. Lane Johnson could switch from the right to the left side, but this might weaken both spots. Instead, Halapoulivaati Vaitai could take over the left-tackle spot.

Meanwhile, the defence has to do without a starting linebacker for the rest of the season: Jordan Hicks suffered an Achilles tendon tearing against Washington, especially in coverage against tight ends and running backs, Hicks Philly will be missing.
