MLB: Stanton and Altuve win Hank Aaron Award 2017
Giancarlo Stanton and Jose Altuve were honored with the Hank Aaron Awards 2017 for the best offensive players of the year at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California prior to Match 2 of the World Series. The award was named after Rob Manfred, the MLB commissioner, who was present at the award ceremony.
In the election, which consisted of fans’ voices on MLB. com and a special panel of hall-of-famers, Stanton von den Miami Marlins won the National League with his 59 home runs. Altuve of Houston Astros led the American League on average and was one of the most dynamic players of the past season.
“Jose Altuve and Giancarlo Stanton are two of our sport’s elite offensive players,”said Manfred:”Although they have different playing styles, Jose and Giancarlo demonstrate that talent, character and work ethic – all attributes that represent Hank Aaron’s life and career – are the keys to success in our great game. On behalf of Major League Baseball, I congratulate both players for their great performances in a memorable 2017 season.”
The Hall-of-Famer responsible for the election are Roberto Alomar, Johnny Bench, Craig Biggio, Ken Griffey Jr., Eddie Murray and Robin Yount.
The award is named after Hank Aaron, who beat the second most homeruns in MLB’s history with 755 homeruns. He also holds the record for most RBIs.
