MLB: Media: Nationals have new managers

The Washington Nationals have apparently found a new manager. Dave Martinez, who has previously been the benchmark coach of Joe Maddon at the Chicago Cubs, will report unanimously in several media reports.

As FanRag Sports reports, Nationals have chosen Martinez to succeed Dusty Baker, whose contract has not been renewed. Martinez will therefore receive a three-year contract with an option for a fourth year. The salary is not known. The official announcement of the collaboration will take place after the World Series, ESPN reports.

Martinez will be the seventh manager of Nationals since the move from Montreal to D. C. in 2005. Martinez spent 16 years in the outfield and spent three and a half years at the Montreal Expos. He made 431 games for the expos and thus more than any other franchise.

The 53-year-old has been Maddon’s companion for ten years and started as a benchmark coach at Tampa Bay Rays in 2008. In 2015, he went to Chicago with Maddon to win the 2016 World Series together.
