NFL: Media: Garoppolo traded to the 49ers

The trade deadline is approaching and the San Francisco 49ers (0-8) have provided the first excitement. From the New England Patriots (6-2) comes the long-time Tom Brady backup Jimmy Garoppolo. ESPN insider Adam Schefter reports this.

For the 25-year-old, the 49ers send a second-round pick of the 2018 drafts to New England. Initial talks about the deal are said to have taken place on Monday morning.

Garoppolo has a current contract until 2018 and will then become an Unrestricted Free Agent. The Patriots probably didn’t want to pay an expensive contract for the quarterback, because Brady is planned to go beyond the season.

Garoppolo presented itself impressively last year at the Deflate Gate blockade against Brady. In the first game, he scored 264 yards in 24 of the 33 passes he won against the Arizona Cardinals, scored a touchdown and remained without interception. He beat the Miami Dolphins to win 18 of 26 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns. Garoppolo remained without interception, but he was injured on the shoulder, so he didn’t see any more regular-season playing time.

Garoppolo turns 26 in November and was supposed to answer the Quarterback question in San Francisco for a long time. Even a possible free agency move for Washington-Redskins-Quarterback Kirk Cousins should be no longer necessary. The 49ers have already broken up with one of their quarterbacks in Bryan Hoyer.
