Olmypia: Rio scandal: IOC cancels COB suspension
The executive of the IOC has partially lifted the suspension of the Brazilian Olympic Committee COB:”The COB will initially regain its membership rights in the association of international NOKs,”the world government of sport announced on Tuesday.
A prerequisite for this was the resignation of former COB President Carlos Arthur Nuzman. Nuzman was arrested by the Brazilian federal police at the beginning of October, but a few days later he was released again subject to conditions.
Among other things, the 75-year-old is accused of buying votes for the 2016 Summer Games to be awarded to the Brazilian metropolis.
The IOC then suspended Nuzman as an honorary member. It has also been withdrawn from the Tokyo Summer Games 2020 coordination committee and the COB has also been suspended.
Nuzman’s new president of the COB is Paulo Wanderley, who has been his deputy until now. The 67-year-old, former head of the Judo Federation, will lead the COB on a full-time basis until the end of his term of office in 2020.
