MLB: Houston Strong!

The Houston Astros have won the World Series 2017! In game 7, they won 5-1 at the Los Angeles Dodgers and crowned themselves champion of the MLB for the first time. George Springer was voted MVP of the series and beat an important home run early in the game. With the Dodgers, on the other hand, after a nervous start, nothing much happened.

The game started catastrophically from the point of view of the hosts, because starter Yu Darvish disappointed again and gave two runs in the first inning. In the second inning, he followed up seamlessly on the first and was finally replaced after two outs and three more runs, including a 2-run homerun by Springer.

The pitching of the Dodgers stabilized afterwards, which was partly due to four strong innings of Ace Clayton Kershaw, but despite numerous chances they were not able to do anything offensive for a long time. Only a pinch hit RBI single by Andre Ethier brought Los Angeles to the scoreboard, but no more than that did not go against an Astros team who finished the game masterfully with numerous pitchers.

World Series, game 7: Los Angeles Dodgers – Houston Astros 1:5 BOXSCORE

Even though this cannot be quantified, nerves must have played a major role at the beginning of the game. The Astros had their foot directly on the gas and took advantage of a nervous beginning of the Dodgers with the weakening Darvish and the error of Bellinger ice-cold. That gave them a boost and put Houston on course. The Dodgers then started defensively after the second inning, but the whole team seemed to be too tense to do much damage.

The Dodgers had plenty of chances and in five of the first six innings there were at least two base runners with less than two outs. However, they made too little of it and were only 1-9 with runners-in-scoring positions. They left ten runners on base. It was also a result of the Astros’ good pitching, but the majority of the hosts were too impatient on the record and then produced hardly any useful at-bats.

The Astros Center Fielder was once again the decisive man, beating the 2-Run-Homerun 5-0 in the second inning for Houston. That was the last pitch Yu Darvish threw. Springer was 2-5 with two runs and now hit home runs in four World Series games. No one has ever done that before! His eight extra basehits in this World Series are also records. So it’s no wonder that he won the Willie Mays World Series MVP Award.

As in Match 3, the Japanese player was once again a failure. He only managed to get five outs and had five runs (4 ER) until then. He again had no control over his slider and should have been replaced in the first inning, at the latest at the end of it. It was therefore not a highlight of Dave Roberts, who showed too much patience at the wrong time.
