MLB: Roy Halladay dies in plane crash

The former MLB pitcher Roy Halladay is dead. The two-time Cy-Young-Award winner died in a plane crash at the age of 40.

“There are no words for the grief that the entire Phillies family has experienced through the loss of one of the most valued individuals who have ever played our game,”said the Philadelphia Phillies, with Halladay’s recent involvement in the MLB.

As the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office confirmed, Halladay crashed into the Gulf of Mexico off Florida on Tuesday with a single-engine machine. Halladay himself was the only person on board as a pilot. The plane was registered in his father’s name. The cause of the accident is not yet known.

The eight-time Allstar recently acquired his pilot’s license. In 2013, he ended his professional career with the Phillies, for which he has been active since 2010. From 1998 to 2009, he was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays team. In 2003 and 2010, he received the Cy-Young Award, which recognizes the best pitcher of the Major Leagues.
