NFL: New England Patriots reclaim Martellus Bennett

Just one day after his release from Green Bay Packers, Martellus Bennett has found a new team. The New England Patriots have reclaimed the tight end via Waiver Claim. Bennett won the Super Bowl last year with New England.

The 30-year-old is currently suffering from a shoulder injury, so it is unclear when he will be available again. On Monday he couldn’t make a run for Green Bay. The Packers had also already announced that it would also be cancelled on Sunday against Chicago.

The patriots take over the entire remaining $21 million three-year contract from Bennett, which he had signed in Green Bay before the start of the season, through the waiver claim. However, it is possible to end the deal after the season if a bonus of two million dollars were due.

In 2016, Bennett came to 701 yards and seven touchdowns for the patriots. The Packers, however, were only 233 yards at 24 catches in seven games this season. He also hinted via Instagram that he wanted to end his career after the season.

It is not yet known how it will be used by the Patriots, but it can be assumed that it will move behind superstar Rob Gronkowski on position two of the depth chart in the tight ends. His real successor in New England, Dwayne Allen, is still waiting for his first Catch this season.
