Rowing: Bender remains coach of the Germany eighth
After winning the World Cup title, Germany’s eighth player will continue to be coached by national coach Uwe Bender. The 58-year-old was originally only supposed to take over the post for one year from successful coach Ralf Holtmeyer, but will now retain his duties. Holtmeyer will become head coach of the DRV in return.
Bender remained unbeaten with the German flagship in 2017. The coronation followed on 1. October in Sarasota/Florida, the first World Cup title since 2011.
Holtmeyer had led the Germany eighth in Seoul in 1988 and the Olympic gold medal in London in 2012. The 61-year-old is to strengthen the structures in his new post “in order to create a powerful German rowing team at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and beyond”, the DRV announced.
“We are delighted that we will now join forces with Ralf Holtmeyer on the road to realigning our national teams,”said DRV Chairman Siegfried Kaidel. Marcus Schwarzrock, former head coach of the DRV, takes over the responsibility as disciplinary trainer for the men’s skull division.
