NBA: Because of Noah: Knicks waiven Kuzminskas
The New York Knicks have broken up with Mindaugas Kuzminskas, as the franchise announced on Sunday. This will free up a squad for Joakim Noah.
Kuzminskas had signed a $3 million contract with the Knicks this season, which was completely guaranteed. The 28-year-old will also receive this sum, regardless of where he will play from now on. New York needed the squad to make room for Noah, who will return from his suspension on Monday for substance abuse.
Kuzminskas said goodbye to the New York fans on Sunday via Twitter and expressed his gratitude:”One of the most beautiful chapters of my life is over. Too soon? I don’t know, sir. But everything in life happens for a reason… I leave New York with nothing but positive memories and will always have a place in my heart for the Knicks.”
Knicks-GM Scott Perry also commented on Sunday:”You can’t emphasize enough how much respect this franchise has for Mindaugas. His professionalism and work ethic were highly appreciated by his coaches and fellow players. This decision was very difficult for us and we wish him all the best in his future career.”
Last season, Kuzminskas had played an average of 6.3 points and 1.9 rebounds as a rookie, but so far he has only been used once in the current season. According to the New York Post, the Lakers, Bulls and Hawks may be interested in the Lithuanian.
