NFL: Media: Cardinals before contract extension with Fitzgerald
For fans of the Arizona Cardinals, there is at least a little comfort in a largely cloudy and wounded season, with consistent reports that Larry Fitzgerald is renewing his expiring contract.
This is reported by NFL network insider Ian Rapoport, among others. According to Pro Football Talk it is a new one-year contract, so Fitzgerald would still be tied to the cardinals for the coming season.
The news comes as a surprise at this point in time, as Fitzgerald had already flirted with a possible resignation during last spring and deliberately took his decision. With this extension, the Cardinals would now make sure that the 2018 receiver doesn’t play anywhere else.
Fitzgerald is already back with 60 catches for 677 yards and three touchdowns. The 34-year-old is one of the most productive receivers from the slot and once again remains the big constant in Arizona’s offense.
A stay in the future Hall of Famers could also encourage quarterback Carson Palmer, whose season is thought to have ended due to a fracture of the arm, to continue. Palmer had also thought about resigning at the beginning of the year.
