MLB: Candidates for Baseball Hall of Fame 2018 announced
The BBWAA has announced its candidates for the 2018 Hall-of-Fame-class. New additions include Chipper Jones, Jim Thome and Omar Vizquel.
Various MVPs, three Cy-Young-Award winners, two rookies of the year, two World Series MVPs and 34 Gold Glove Awards are to be voted on in this year’s vote. In addition, a member of the 600 Homerun club joins them.
A total of 19 new candidates are to be elected by letter. 430 members of the Baseball Writers Association of America will then decide on admission to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
A maximum of ten players may vote for the eligible voters and one player must hold at least 75 percent of the votes, i. e. 323, for the admission. Last year, Reliever Trevor Hoffman (74 percent) and Outfielder Vladimir Guerrero (71.1 percent) only narrowly missed the mark.
The result of the election will be announced on 24 March. January 2018 at 6 pm East Coast time live in the MLB Network.
